Shelly Lowe-Whan and Kelly Fellers were students together at the former Susan Cooper School of Dance. After serving on the instructional staff, they purchased the school in 1984, moving it in 1991 to it's uniquely designed facility which is among the largest in Washington State. Shelly performed in Children's Theater and in Summer Stock in the Skagit Valley under the direction of the renowned Phillip Tarro. She serves as Regional Director of Dance Educators of America. Kelly's extensive dance experience includes performing in numerous productions aboard the cruise ship S.S. Azure Seas. Their combined love of the dance and commitment to students have been the hallmark of the Skagit Valley Academy of Dance since it's founding. The vitality of the dance academy is reflected in the depth of it's teaching curriculum and their dedication to continuously improved teaching methods.

Skagit Valley Academy of Dance offers classes for ages 2 to adult. In every sense we view our relationship with young students and their parents as a partnership and we welcome parental enthusiasm and involvement. Adult students will also appreciate the close bond that develops between staff and student.
Our staff has been carefully chosen not only for their teaching ability but for those qualities that make a good techer... patience, a caring attitude, and the gift of inspiring students by the example of their enthusiasm. The Academy both encourages and assists it's staff in the pursuit of additional classes and seminars to upgrade their teaching techniques..

Poise...flexibility...strength...teamwork...self-control...self-confidence - these are the qualities of every dancer. For the young child, the free expression helps build confidence while teaching valuable lessons for life and living. At every level, whether beginner, intermediate or advanced, the study of the dance develops concentration, assurance, and fosters positive values and attitudes.
A focal point for such training and commitment are the performances by our Skagit Valley Academy of Dance students.

Skagit Valley Academy of Dance can trace its roots back for more than 20 years. Some of its former students have gone on to careers as professional dancers, some have chosen to teach. All enjoy a love of the dance which was fostered in a school that encourages the joy of dancing.
Studio space at the academy is large and bright with an excellent dance floor designed to minimize fatigue. The facility, built in 1991, was planned as a dance school and is one of the largest privately-owned dance academies in Washington State.
The Skagit Valley Academy of Dance is proud of its affiliation with the nationally renowned Dance Educators of America, as well as its performing and national competition team, "Dansations", which holds auditions for advanced ages 9 through adult.
